The Mayans

The Mayan civilization was one of the largest pre-Columbian societies in the Americas. It flourished between 200 BC and 900 AD. The Mayans had an advanced culture with a complex society, religion, and government. Their calendar system was based on the movement of the sun across the sky.

The Aztecs

The Aztec Empire was founded by the Mexica people who migrated south from Mesoamerica. They settled in what is now Mexico City and established a capital city called Tenochtitlan. The empire grew rapidly under the rule of Moctezuma I (1440–1469) and later his son Axayacatl (1469–1481).

The Incas

The Inca civilization was one of the largest empires in pre-Columbian America. It was centered in Peru and its territory extended into Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, and parts of Colombia. The Inca Empire reached its peak during the reign of Pachacuti (1438–1471), who united the various tribes of the Andes region into an empire. The city of Machu Picchu today is one of the 7 Wonders of the World!

The Zapotec

The Zapotec were one of the earliest groups of Native Americans to settle in what is now Mexico. Their culture flourished from 1000 BC to AD 1521, when Spanish conquistadors arrived. Today, there are still many Zapotec living in Oaxaca, where they speak the Zapotec language.
