Description: In the 8th century BCE Homer wrote the Iliad, an epic story about the famous Trojan War. Homer’s story is based on historical events that took place around 1200 BCE in modern western Turkey. Here an archaeological site, known as Troy, has been discovered. In this tour we will look into the archaeological remains of Troy to see how much of Homer’s story is true.

I am a Dutch Classicist and Ancient Historian, who works as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Johannesburg. I am specialised in communication security and secret messaging in the ancient world and had published several articles and a book. As a historian, I also have broad knowledge of Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian and Egyptian history, archaeology, and culture.
