Today, let’s take a look at Saint Jean de Luz; nestling in the heart of a vast bay between ocean and mountain, this privateer town has developed while preserving its identity. Although the days when whalers ventured off the coast of Newfoundland are long gone, the town still boasts a pretty fishing port. Its pedestrian streets linking the ocean to the historic center and its old mansions bear witness to the fortunes of 17th-century shipowners, and preserve the memory of the Sun King, who married here in 1660. Located between Biarritz and the Spanish border, the fishing port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, on the edge of the Atlantic, offers both the charm of the Basque country and beautiful beaches.
