Description

Batumi is a Georgian town on the Black Sea whose past is far richer and stranger than most people expect. Over the centuries, it has passed through many worlds: the ancient kingdom of Colchis and the legend of the Golden Fleece, periods of Ottoman rule, the Russian imperial era and the Soviet period. On this sunset virtual tour, we’ll walk through Batumi’s streets and look closely at the city’s architecture while tracing the forces that shaped it. We’ll talk about the Nobel brothers and the Rothschilds, who helped turn Batumi into a major oil port linked to Baku by one of the world’s earliest pipelines, and about Georgian tea, which found an unlikely home in this humid subtropical corner of the country. As evening falls over the Black Sea, Batumi emerges not simply as a seaside resort, but as a place shaped by trade, empire, industry and a remarkable mix of influences.

ATTENTION:

⛈️ In case of adverse weather conditions, the walking tour will be canceled and rescheduled without notice.
