Description

As the Roman summer reaches its hottest days, let’s escape the heat by visiting Ancient Rome’s greatest spa. The Baths of Caracalla were far more than a place to bathe: they were a world of relaxation, sport, art and extraordinary engineering, where thousands of Romans gathered every day. Join our archaeologist Alba for a special videowalk through this extraordinary archaeological site. Together, we’ll explore the monumental halls, swimming pools, gardens, and the underground service tunnels that kept this vast complex running with remarkable efficiency. Beyond their monumental architecture, the Baths of Caracalla were a vibrant social world, where people exercised, read, relaxed, conducted business, and admired extraordinary works of art. As we wander through these impressive ruins, we’ll uncover the ingenious hydraulic and heating systems that supplied enormous quantities of water, regulated different temperatures, and made this architectural masterpiece possible. Through its monumental spaces and hidden infrastructure, we’ll discover what daily life here reveals about the sophistication of ancient Rome. Join us for an unforgettable online experience and discover the Baths of Caracalla—not simply as majestic ruins, but as a place where the brilliance of Roman engineering and the rhythms of everyday life still echo through the centuries.

Professional Tour Guide

Alba S.

Ciao! I'm Alba, a Roman archaeologist and licensed tour guide. Even though I'm Italian through and through, I've spent quite a bit of time living on the East Coast of the US and in England. After snagging a BA in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and not one, but two MAs in Archaeology and History of Architecture, I went all out and got my Ph.D. in Archaeology back in 2015. But you know what? I quickly realized that I'm more into storytelling than hardcore research. So, I ditched the academic life and dove headfirst into guiding tours and educating folks in museums all across central Italy. I'm all about uncovering the hidden gems of Rome and the surrounding areas in Lazio. Sure, the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are cool, but there's so much more to see! So, join me for some passionate dives into the Great Beauty of Rome. Let's explore its fascinating history and art scene together!
