Lesson 2: Etruscan Women and their Role in their Society
The ancient Greeks and Romans were appalled and at the same time fascinated by the freedom but also religiousity of the Etruscan women. We will tell the story of Tanaquilla and many other anonymous Etruscan women we know from their burial places.
Course Description
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the fascinating Etruscan Civilization. During this 4-lessons course we will discuss their Society, their Language, their Religion through the many objects they have left us and the written testimonies of their contemporary Greek and Latin authors. We will get to know the Etruscan women and especially Tanaquilla!
Why are the Etruscans still called “mysterious”? We will try to find an answer to that question.
We will end the course inside an Etruscan Museum and discuss their funerary Art.
