Description

Experience the vibrant heart of Mexico City’s Historic Center as it prepares for Día de Muertos. We’ll walk through the iconic Zócalo, admire the Metropolitan Cathedral, and pass by the remains of the Aztec Templo Mayor, all beautifully decorated for the colorful festival of Day of the Dead. We’ll also see the majestic Palacio de Bellas Artes, another landmark dressed up for the celebration. A highlight will be the spectacular Mega Ofrenda in the Zócalo, a monumental altar created each year with unique designs, artwork, and symbolism. We’ll explain its elements, their meaning, and how this tradition blends ancient pre-Hispanic rituals with Catholic influences to honor the cycle of life and death.
Highlights:
The Mega Ofrenda: design, symbolism, and yearly themes.
The Zócalo and its festive atmosphere.
The Metropolitan Cathedral and Catholic traditions tied to Día de Muertos.
The Aztec ruins of Templo Mayor and their ancient funerary rituals.
The Palacio de Bellas Artes as part of the cultural landscape.
Local expressions of remembrance through art, food, and music.
