Tour Description
Witnessing the “Festival dedicated to death” may sound shocking at first, but the reality is very different when knowing the deep and emotional meaning that the Day of the Dead holds for all the people of Mexico. We will have a special live tour in which you can witness the color, culture and symbolism that surrounds this series of events for a couple of days.
On November 1 and 2, the people of Mexico flock to cemeteries to lay orange Cempasúchil flowers so that loved ones who have died can find their way back for a couple of nights and share their presence with those who are still alive.
To live spiritually and emotionally with deceased relatives and friends, each Mexican family puts up an altar with food, decorations, toys and items that they used to like. This is also manifested artistically and culturally in public squares throughout Mexico with altars, decorations and special events, how you can see it on this tour.
The square we will visit is south of Mexico City. Its name is Coyoacán and it is historically a bohemian and artistic neighborhood. There we will pass outside the houses of Frida Kahlo and Leon Trotsky, cultural icons of this area. We will see some of the preparations for the events of museums, galleries and craft centers. In the middle of the square, we will appreciate the decorations and artistic expressions typical of this festival, along with the original costumes of the people who walk around, mainly alluding to the “Catrina” skull.
ATTENTION:
⛈️ In case of adverse weather conditions, the walking tour will be canceled and rescheduled without notice.
