In this talk we will explore how Rome turned from a small city state into a vast empire. We will also look at how the Romans used standardised architecture throughouth the empire with amphitheatres and bath houses from the UK to the Near East.

I am a Dutch Classicist and Ancient Historian, who works as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Johannesburg. I am specialised in communication security and secret messaging in the ancient world and had published several articles and a book. As a historian, I also have broad knowledge of Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian and Egyptian history, archaeology, and culture.
