Hosted by Filiz T.: PhD in Art History and Licensed Tour Guide in Turkey
More than 2,700 years after Homer’s Odyssey first took shape, Christopher Nolan’s new film has brought the ancient epic back into the spotlight. Join us as we follow the legendary journey of Odysseus from Troy to Ithaca, across the “wine-dark sea” and through a world of gods, monsters and dangerous temptations. Using ancient artworks, archaeological sites, maps and Mediterranean landscapes, this virtual tour explores one of the most influential stories of adventure, survival and homecoming ever told.
Follow Odysseus on his long and perilous journey home from Troy to Ithaca.
Encounter the Cyclops, Circe, Calypso, the Sirens and the shadows of the Underworld through ancient art and legendary landscapes.
Explore the archaeology of Ithaca and the centuries-old attempts to map Odysseus’ route across the Mediterranean.
Discover how Homer’s story of war, wandering, identity and homecoming has been reimagined for the twenty-first century in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

I’m Filiz Tütüncü Çağlar, an archaeologist and art historian (MA, PhD) who has spent more than twenty-five years guiding across Turkey and Germany. Currently, I’m based in Berlin, working as a postdoctoral researcher and guide at the city’s major museums. My research follows the people who excavated the past and carried it into museums, and it has taught me that the best stories hide behind the objects. My tours at World Virtual Tours will take you from Anatolia’s Neolithic settlements to the walls of Troy and the voyages of Odysseus, through medieval and Ottoman Istanbul down to shipwrecks on the seabed and into the backstories of museum collections. All you need is curiosity.
