Join this live walk along one of Tbilisi’s most elegant streets — Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue, where the city’s Art Nouveau architecture is especially striking. The avenue is lined with richly decorated facades, ornate balconies and colorful historic houses that reflect the cosmopolitan spirit of Tbilisi in the 19th century. This neighborhood was once home to a German colony, whose residents brought Central European building traditions and urban planning ideas that influenced the look of the area. Their legacy can still be seen in the symmetry of the streets, the decorative details, and the refined architectural style of many buildings. As we walk along the avenue, we’ll look at these architectural details, talk about the merchants and residents who once lived here, and explore a part of Tbilisi that still preserves the elegance and charm of the city’s past.
