Description
Trastevere is known today for its lively nightlife, charming alleyways, and buzzing piazzas—but beneath the surface lies a much older, quieter story. Hidden beneath two of its most ancient churches are forgotten worlds: Roman houses, early Christian tombs, and centuries of sacred transformation. This exclusive online tour invites you to explore the undergrounds of San Crisogono and Santa Cecilia, where layers of history reveal how ancient Roman spaces were reshaped into places of worship, memory, and mystery. Your guide, Alba, is an archaeologist with years of experience studying how Roman buildings found new life in later religious contexts. With her deep knowledge and storytelling flair, she’ll help you uncover the beauty, symbolism, and secrets buried beneath these iconic sites. Walk through shadowed corridors where pagan and Christian Rome intertwine. Marvel at ancient columns hidden below altar stones. Discover faded frescoes, silent crypts, and spaces once thought lost to time. This isn’t just a glimpse underground—it’s a journey into how Rome’s past continues to shape its present.

Professional Tour Guide
Alba S.
Ciao! I'm Alba, a Roman archaeologist and licensed tour guide. Even though I'm Italian through and through, I've spent quite a bit of time living on the East Coast of the US and in England. After snagging a BA in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and not one, but two MAs in Archaeology and History of Architecture, I went all out and got my Ph.D. in Archaeology back in 2015. But you know what? I quickly realized that I'm more into storytelling than hardcore research. So, I ditched the academic life and dove headfirst into guiding tours and educating folks in museums all across central Italy. I'm all about uncovering the hidden gems of Rome and the surrounding areas in Lazio. Sure, the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are cool, but there's so much more to see! So, join me for some passionate dives into the Great Beauty of Rome. Let's explore its fascinating history and art scene together!
