Description

Grafton Street is one of the two principal shopping Streets in Dublin City Centre. It’s a very fashionable Street and most of the shops(stores) on this Street are upmarket with many designer shops. The most famous of these is Brown Thomas which has more than 100 designer shops under the one roof with exclusive luxury brands. It is considered a landmark at the heart of Dublin’s shopping district. Dublin’s first ever coffee shop Bewleys is on Grafton Street and was first established by a Quaker family in 1840, it is a Grafton Street institution, there is also a theatre upstairs that has daily performances. Grafton Street is a pedestrian Street, although delivery vehicles have access to the Street up to 11a.m each day.
The Street is also known for its buskers and many famous Irish musicians first performed on this street including the band U2, Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy, Sinead O’Connor and others such as Glen Hansard who won an academy award in 2007 for his original song Falling Slowly from the movie Once which he also starred in. On the side Streets off of Grafton Street are some of Dublin’s most iconic pubs many of them are literary pubs where famous Irish writers including James Joyce use to drink. We will see all this and much more on this tour.
