Description

Joseph Brodsky, one of the most significant poets of the 20th century, passed away on January 28, 1996. He earned the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1987 for what the committee called his “all-embracing authorship, imbued with clarity of thought and poetic intensity.” His importance stems from his unique ability to bridge Russian and American literary traditions, writing masterfully in both languages after being forced into exile from the Soviet Union in 1972. His poetry combined classical forms with modern sensibilities, while his essays demonstrated a profound understanding of culture, politics, and the human condition. On this tour, we’ll wander the streets he once knew so well, uncover the traces of his world, and step inside his former communal apartment—now a moving museum called A Room and a Half. Discover what remains of that vanished Soviet past and the city that shaped a poet.

Professional Tour Guide

Anna L.
Anna L.

Hi, my name is Anna. I used to be a licensed tour guide to Saint Petersburg, Russia. Due to Russian-Ukrainian war and my zero tolerance of my county’s government, I had to leave my beloved city and job. I’m currently living in Israel. There is no such thing as an ex-guide, so I’m not wasting my time and studying to become a licensed tour guide to the Holy Land. Join me in my exploration of Israel. Let’s discover this country together. History is never boring, it’s all how you talk about it. I do all kinds of virtual tours, from big touristy spots, to the nooks off the beaten path.
