Lesson 2: Dashavatar. The Ten Avatars of Lord Vishnu
As mentioned in the previous lesson on the Indian mythological cosmos, there is a cyclicality to the succession of events and every age in a single cycle is marked with the recurrence of Lord Vishnu, one of the three major gods. In the current cycle, Vishnu is credited with ten appearances in an earthly form, be it as animal or as man, also known as avatars. This lesson gives a detailed account of these ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, also called Dashavatar, to understand the multifaceted nature of the Indian God of Life and Balance.
Course Description
This course provides a structured examination of Indian mythology, focusing on its cosmology, key deities, and foundational texts. Through four detailed lessons, participants will explore the ancient Indian worldview, the cyclic nature of cosmic events, and the principal gods, as well as the literature that preserves these narratives.
