Course Description
Explore the monumental dimensions and performance spaces of Confucian, Buddhist, and Daoist temples (plus cave sculptures and huge statues) with patriarchal, maternal, and supportive/trickster aspects, through the lenses of neuroscience and theatre.

Mark Pizzato, MFA, PhD, is a Professor of Theatre and Film at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He teaches a wide range of subjects, including art, architecture, music, dance, religious studies, communication, and anthropology. His latest book, *European Churches and Chinese Temples as Neuro-Theatrical Sites*, was published by Bloomsbury in 2024. He has authored six previous books exploring topics such as global theatre history, onscreen animal-human depictions, and the psychology of theater and cinema. Additionally, his short films have earned awards, and he is the self-published author of a sci-fi-farce novella, *Outer Space Speaks*, available on Amazon.
