Description
A festival dedicated to death may sound surprising at first. In Mexico, Día de Muertos has a deeply emotional meaning: remembering loved ones and welcoming their memory back into family life. Join this Live from the Coyoacán area of Mexico City as we look at the preparations for this celebration. We’ll walk through the Panteón de Xoco cemetery and parts of the nearby Coyoacán and Xoco neighborhoods, discovering how this tradition brings together family memories, cultural expressions and beliefs about life and death. Along the way, we’ll talk about the meaning of the ofrendas, the orange cempasúchil flowers that guide loved ones home, and the food and personal objects placed on family altars. This walk takes place before the main celebration on November 1 and 2, offering a look at the preparations and atmosphere.
