Description
Seen from afar, Egyptian history looks pristine: easy succession of kings from father to son, officials managing the country in harmony. This is a carefully crafted impression, a trick of the light, designed to hide what happened in the shadows. We will follow, “true crime”-style, three kings of Egypt – one from the Old Kingdom, one from the Middle, and one from the New – who met grisly ends at the hands of trusted confidants and even family. Who killed them, why, and how do we know? Join this tour to see what happens when everything went wrong inside an Egyptian royal palace.

Jacob G.
I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Pennsylvania, studying ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. I have worked on many topics, including frog-shaped stone vessels from the earliest periods of Egypt, the tombs of the Theban Necropolis, and Assyrian royal propaganda. I have also excavated in Egypt at the ancient town of Wah-Sut, a settlement for the workers of the temple of pharaoh Senwosret III.
