I loved the live walk along the beach and down the trail in Cahuita national park. We had the place pretty much to ourselves, and Alejandro told us so many interesting things about the park and Costa Rica in general. This was my first tour with Alejandro but I will definitely be signing up for more in the future!

A walk through the rainforest and a walk on the beach are just two of the magical experiences offered in Costa Rica. In Cahuita, it is possible to do both. One minute, Alejandro is walking through the forest, trees on either side and a canopy of greenery above his head. The next, he is on the beach with the rolling waves.

It really is an incredible experience to see two such rich and such different worlds so close together. They are both very beautiful, but there are also many rules that must be followed. Danger lurks in the rainforest – it is not a good idea to leave the path – and the sea can hurt you too if you swim at the wrong time.

There are many different trees and plants in the forest and also wildlife. Although there were no monkeys on this occasion, one mammal did make an appearance, along with a few different types of insects. The beauty alone would have made this tour special, but Alejandro’s tours are always wonderfully educational. He speaks of the plants in scientific detail, explaining how they take in water and nutrients and even the different ways they use in order to fend off attacks from predators.

It was fascinating to learn about the different animals that lived in the rainforest and the ways they play a role in keeping it alive – and what the plants can do for the animals in return. It really is a very special place to explore and the perfect classroom in which to learn about this part of the world.

Alejandro is a brilliant teacher. He explains complicated ideas in a way which is simple yet not patronising and (unlike most of my teachers) he hasn’t forgotten how much fun learning and discovery can be.

A truly local tour

As always, Alejandro never fails to disappoint in his live tours in Costa Rica. Today’s visit and walk around in Alajusla, and hearing about some of the history of Costa Rica, was fun. Going on Alejandro’s guided Costa Rica tours is probably the only way I’ll be able to visit that country. Many thanks!

On December 15, 2023, Alejandro gave us a guided tour of four different and distinct types of household/living areas in Costa Rica, as well as history of why the various types of neighborhoods were developed. Absolutely fascinating. And he ended it with a live cooking demonstration outside of the back side of the ‘condominiums’ area.

Alejandro’s tour of the making of Chocolate with the indigenous tribe in Costa Rica was absolutely fascinating! Along the way (path) literally we learned about various native plants used for medicinal purposes. His enthusiasm and interaction with the family was priceless.
