Omid Salek
Picasso Museum in Barcelona
There was a lot of good information presented.
I was impressed with the number of topics that were covered. Great ideas for further reading.
Interesting and very well-prepared with beautiful images
Omid’s tour of the mosques was a brilliant idea which really worked very well. It was a great opportunity to learn about something which a lot of people wouldn’t know if mosques don’t happen to be part of their daily lives.
Additionally, this tour ticks several boxes in terms of subjects virtual travellers very often find very interesting. Omid focused particularly on architecture, which is a very popular subject in virtual touring, whether someone is interested in the technicalities or whether they just want to look at beautiful buildings.
History and geography are also very interesting to the virtual travelling community and both featured in this tour. Omid showed us a map of the area, in addition to showing a map of a mosque. He also talked about the history of religion and touched on the religion of Iran before Islam. The religion in question is one I actually first heard of through opera, of all things, which means the tour is not only going to enhance my knowledge of Iran, mosques, religion and everything else covered in this tour, it will also enhance my enjoyment of opera.
It was very interesting to learn about the different rooms in the mosques and to see examples of them. There were also lots of unexpected discoveries like the relevance and meanings of colour and the fact that sometimes a particular space in a mosque is built that way for practical reasons.
Omid gave the tour through images and videos and it was very interesting and very well-prepared. He was also happy to spend quite a lot of the time at the end of the tour answering questions and responding to comments and I’m sure this was appreciated by everyone.
Looking forward to any of Omid’s lectures,, very knowledgeable and personable.
I like the way he presents all his knowledge interspersed with very short videos. He is not afraid to say; “I don’t know” – I like that. His knowledge of the past is amazing. He refers to something and then does a quick bit of data, just in case we were not familiar with what he was referencing.
