One of the oldest extant works of literature, it is regarded as the first substantial piece of European literature that has been widely read from the day it was written until today. It was used as a textbook in the ancient Greek world and played a crucial role for the development of not only the Greek culture but also of the Western civilization. I’m Filiz Tütüncü Çağlar, an archaeologist and art historian (MA, PhD) who has spent more than twenty-five years guiding across Turkey and Germany. Currently, I’m based in Berlin, working as a postdoctoral researcher and guide at the city’s major museums. My research follows the people who excavated the past and carried it into museums, and it has taught me that the best stories hide behind the objects. My tours at World Virtual Tours will take you from Anatolia’s Neolithic settlements to the walls of Troy and the voyages of Odysseus, through medieval and Ottoman Istanbul down to shipwrecks on the seabed and into the backstories of museum collections. All you need is curiosity.
