Description
What happens when a writer arrives in Rome and begins to discover a city completely different from the one we see in postcards? In this online tour, archaeologist and Rome guide Alba will take you into the Rome of Pier Paolo Pasolini: a city of borgate, dusty streets, markets, shantytowns and new suburbs, inhabited by the working-class communities and young people who would become central to his novels and films. The journey begins at a very special place: Casa Pasolini, the new museum in Rome’s Rebibbia district, which Alba coordinates today. Opened in late 2025, the museum occupies the apartment where Pasolini lived during his first years in Rome — a period when he was still discovering the city and beginning to explore its outskirts and its rapidly changing social landscape. From there, we will follow Pasolini through some of the places that shaped his vision of Rome and inspired Ragazzi di vita, Accattone and Mamma Roma. Using photographs, maps, archival material and film footage, we will explore not only the places he described, but also the people, landscapes and transformations behind them. What did Pasolini find in the margins of Rome? Why did these places fascinate him so deeply? And what can they tell us about the city today?
Come with us beyond the Colosseum and the historic center, into a Rome that is raw, vibrant, contradictory and constantly changing — the Rome Pasolini discovered, loved, transformed into art, and never stopped questioning.

Ciao! I'm Alba, a Roman archaeologist and licensed tour guide. Even though I'm Italian through and through, I've spent quite a bit of time living on the East Coast of the US and in England. After snagging a BA in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and not one, but two MAs in Archaeology and History of Architecture, I went all out and got my Ph.D. in Archaeology back in 2015. But you know what? I quickly realized that I'm more into storytelling than hardcore research. So, I ditched the academic life and dove headfirst into guiding tours and educating folks in museums all across central Italy. I'm all about uncovering the hidden gems of Rome and the surrounding areas in Lazio. Sure, the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain are cool, but there's so much more to see! So, join me for some passionate dives into the Great Beauty of Rome. Let's explore its fascinating history and art scene together!
