Description

Let’s roam in the halls of Pavlovsk palace and talk about Emperor Paul I of Russia (1754–1801), son of Catherine the Great, who inherited the throne at 42 after her long reign, ruling for just over four tumultuous years before his assassination by noble conspirators. His reign was marked by erratic policies, military reforms, and a troubled relationship with his mother, who sidelined him from power and may have planned to bypass him in succession.
Pavlovsk is a magnificent example of Russian neoclassical architecture, was originally built in 1782 as a summer residence for Emperor Paul I (then Grand Duke) and his wife Maria Feodorovna. The palace and its expansive English-style landscape park were a wedding gift from Catherine the Great to her son Paul, though their relationship was notably strained throughout his life. The estate, designed by Charles Cameron and later modified by Vincenzo Brenna, reflects the refined artistic tastes of both Paul and Maria, who filled it with exquisite collections acquired during their European travels. Let’s see the opulent interiors of the palace and talk about emperor Paul I and mysteries around his life and death.

Professional Tour Guide

Anna L.

Hi, my name is Anna. I used to be a licensed tour guide to Saint Petersburg, Russia. Due to Russian-Ukrainian war and my zero tolerance of my county’s government, I had to leave my beloved city and job. I’m currently living in Israel. There is no such thing as an ex-guide, so I’m not wasting my time and studying to become a licensed tour guide to the Holy Land. Join me in my exploration of Israel. Let’s discover this country together. History is never boring, it’s all how you talk about it. I do all kinds of virtual tours, from big touristy spots, to the nooks off the beaten path.
