Walking Tour of Dublin

Very informative tour. Loves to tell a story, a bit of a music buff and very informative about Ireland history that wasn’t part of our tour. Finished our tour at the Book of Kells. Would highly recommend.

I have been going on Dave’s virtual tours for well over two years since when he was a Heygo virtual tour guide which was launched during the pandemic. His tours are always full of wit, knowledge building, a wealth of stories, and learning about this great land of Ireland and its amazing people. He inspired me to finally visit Dublin this past summer. I forgot about this area of Dublin and I’m going to have to make sure I catch it on my next trip. My trip was a tremendous experience because of Dave’s tours just like this one. I had learned so much from Dave beforehand and had planned my trip based on his tours. I can’t wait to go back and visit some of the sea coast towns he took us too next year. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person which was the treat of a life time and he took my sister and I on a fabulous walking tour which was so much fun seeing the many places Dave had taken me to virtually in person. If you visit Dublin do book a walking tour with him, I promise you won’t be sorry. His tour company is called Dublin Roques Tours and can be found at https://dublinroguestour.com/

You’ll laugh as much as you learn on Dave’s tours

Grafton Street looks like it would be a fun street to walk down in any circumstances – there are numerous pubs and cafés, buskers on the street, and lots of shops selling all kinds of different products. But what makes Dave’s tours special is that he doesn’t just tell us what all these places are. He knows many stories about the buildings themselves, the businesses which have operated there, and the many colourful characters to have played a role in Grafton Street’s history.

Dave showed us some of the more famous places, like the home of the Book of Kells, Trinity College and the statue of Molly Malone. The Book of Kells is remarkable, Trinity College is beautiful and it’s always amusing to hear about Molly.

But Dave also shows us places we won’t necessarily have heard of, such as a church which is no longer a church (and hasn’t been for a number of years); a stall which has been run by the same family, selling the same items for generations and a bar where you can get a nice Guinness while you send your husband into the bar’s grocery section (if you trust him, anyway).

In addition, Dave tells us about many well-known people who have a connection to Dublin. Famous names include a man who married his best mate’s ex (and got away with it); a poet who had a smart answer for a reporter, and a mate of his who really went the extra mile to impress the girl he liked. And if you know an Irish person you’d like to insult, Dave knows exactly how to do it.

Dave’s tours are full of interesting facts and information, but he also has a wonderfully cheeky sense of humour. You’ll laugh as much as you learn on Dave’s tours.

Get to know not just Dublin but the people who once lived there in this fascinating tour

It’s great to see Dave’s excellent Ancient Dublin tour on another platform and reaching new audiences. If you have seen it on another platform and you have the opportunity to see it on World Virtual Tours, I do recommend it. The tour is slightly different and I think the indoor sections of the tour have better reception than on Heygo. Dublin is also a city which is worth seeing multiple times and Dave tells the best stories.

There are many ancient parts of Dublin. There are two very old cathedrals. One is the oldest cathedral in Dublin and the other is dedicated to a Welshman who is very well-known in Ireland (though Paul in Edinburgh says he’s Scottish and a lot of other people say he’s English so you can make up your own minds there!). We also visit castles and towers, as well as buildings from more recent history, like a chip shop, a brewery and a pub which wasn’t always a pub.

Dave tells us about Viking settlements, inescapable prisons (or so they thought), Bram Stoker’s former workplace and even places where Royalty kept their jewels – some with more success than others. Dave brings the stories wonderfully to life, telling us not just about events from Irish history but the colourful characters who lived there.

Dave is a friendly guide who likes a chat and he’s always happy to answer questions.
