Medinet Habu, otherwise known as theΒ Temple of Ramses III,Β is one of the greatest temples of the twentieth dynasty. It wasΒ built by King Ramses III and dedicated to Amun-Ra, the main god of ancient Egypt at the time.Β The temple also functioned as aΒ funerary templeΒ for Ramses III, meaning his funeral rites were performed there, before being buried in one of the many tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Funerary temples in Luxor, such as Medinet Habu, are also known as βtemples of million yearsβ to indicate that they are meant to lastΒ for eternity.Β Medinet Habu was the largest funeral temple built on theΒ West Bank of Luxor, and exhibits the deepest carvings of all ancient monuments in the region, including aΒ famous sceneΒ of theΒ LibyansΒ and theΒ Sea Peoples, which makesΒ this temple very uniqueΒ and interesting.Β Our Egyptologist Khaled will show and tell you everything!
