Tour Description
Carvaggio has been one of the most influencing, famous and then forgotten Italian painters ever.
His life was a catastrophic succession of fame and tragic events.
CARAVAGGIO’S PEOPLE: behind such revolutionary paintings there was a real man, with his turbolent past, his friends, his enemies.
STREET MODELS: he made the ordinary people he met in the streets of Rome the protagonists of his art. Famous prostitutes becoming Virgin Mary and Mary Madgalene. Street sellers, gypsies and homelesses becoming pilgrims or saints.
A VIOLENT MAN: Rome and Milan were brutal and violent cities. They made Caravaggio strong. But they also made him a murderer.
