Exciting and magical

Visiting the remaining signs of Ancient Egypt is always an incredible experience so it is always very exciting to return and explore it some more. The tour began outside the Temple of Medinet Habu, which looked exciting and magical under the bright blue sky.

The Temple has many images on its walls and ceilings and it was interesting to learn why the colours are stronger in some places than in others. Khaled also pointed out the hieroglyphs on the walls. They are impressive even just to look at, but examining them in detail and learning what they actually mean was very exciting. The word ‘Temple’ itself has very interesting etymology which shows how much a certain type of worker was valued and it was interesting to learn how the Temple is put together and to see the bathroom facilities, which are surprisingly recognisable.

Khaled also spoke about the many different purposes of the Temple – there were a couple of surprises – and showed us the ancient equivalent of Instagram. There are carvings in the wall which are surprisingly deep and the explanation for this is known. It is incredible to think how much is known about a time which was so long ago. Khaled told us some wonderful stories of the past, but there was also a comparatively more modern one involving a rich Englishman and the British Museum.

Khaled has a wonderfully rich knowledge which encompasses not only the tour but the many questions which were asked by viewers at the end of the tour. It is lovely that he seems to enjoy the miraculous discoveries made about Ancient Egypt just as much as his listeners.

Khaled is a great guide. He took us virtually into the pyramids and explained the word pyramid to us (house of Ra in triangular form). I highly recommend his tours.
