Description

Indian myths sprawl across various texts and the representative deities can be broadly divided into Vedic gods (pagan in nature), and the Puranic gods (forming the structure of the family system). While the first tour in this series dealt with the Vedic gods, this tour covers the cosmology and stories of the deities to whom the ancients texts called Puranas were dedicated (hence Puranic gods) – which includes the Indian trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva; the mother goddess Shakti, and the other lesser gods who rule over specific domains of livelihood as perceived in the Indian society. No background knowledge about the last tour is required. This tour is for you if you are interested about mythology in general and the myriad Indian gods in particular.

We believe knowledge must be FREE, available to everyone. Just get your Free pass and ENJOY!

Professional Tour Guide

Diptarup G.
Diptarup G.

I’m Dr Diptarup Ghosh Dastidar, a research fellow at Banaras Hindu University, India. My PhD thesis deals with comics studies and spatiality, but my interests span farther wide into popular culture, gender studies, and Indology. I have taught at various universities in India and am currently teaching literature and language to school kids in Uttar Pradesh. Living in the historic city of Varanasi (aka Benares), I have been driven into learning and talking about ancient Indian scriptures, mythology, and philosophy. I am very passionate about socialising and I love lecturing! I’m also a musician and vocalist in the alt-rock band – The Spring Leaves – while I’m not teaching, or reading! I hope that I’ll be able to add some value to your experience with World Virtual Tours. Cheers!
