With its distinct bastions and the stunning Peter and Paul Cathedral at its center, it holds immense cultural and historical significance. This time, we’re heading to the Trubetskoy Bastion, historically significant for its role as a political prison, stood within the formidable walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress. Constructed in the 18th century, it became a symbol of tsarist oppression, where early political dissidents were incarcerated. The damp, dimly lit cells of the Trubetskoy Bastion bore witness to the sufferings of countless individuals who dared to challenge the autocratic regime. Many notable revolutionaries had serve their time in this prison during the tumultuous years leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917. The Trubetskoy Bastion stands as a somber testament to the resilience of those who fought for change, enduring hardship and persecution in their pursuit of a more just and equitable society.
