Close to Paris, but in the Oise region, lies a jewel of French history, and by history we mean several centuries.We discover that Senlis still has its Gallo-Roman ramparts (3rd century). They are among the best preserved in France and give an excellent idea of the ancient Augustomagus, the Roman name for Senlis. A masterpiece of early Gothic art (12th century), it is smaller than Notre-Dame de Paris… but just as elegant. The royal castle and the birth of the Capetian monarchy. It was here that Hugh Capet was proclaimed king, marking the beginning of a dynasty that would reign for more than 800 years. We will see the courtyard and parts of the castle.
